United Nations Association of Pomona Valley invite the public to attend:
"A Pandemic Update on the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) "
Past President of PVUNA
Mel Boynton has been a leader in the UNA-USA at the local, regional and national level since 2004. He helped lead the 2013 California consultations that helped inform the adopted SDGs and measures. Mel brings his international, government, and economic skills to bear in explaining the importance of setting goals and measuring progress to achieve global outcomes. He is currently the Vice President for Advocacy for the SoCal UNA division and the Pomona Valley UNA chapter.
The 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development, adopted by all United Nations Member States in 2015, provides a shared blueprint for peace and prosperity for people and the planet, now and into the future. At its heart are the 17 Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), which are an urgent call for action by all countries – developed and developing – in a global partnership. They recognize that ending poverty and other deprivations must go hand-in-hand with strategies that improve health and education, reduce inequality, and spur economic growth – all while tackling climate change and working to preserve our oceans and forests. Until 2020, progress was being made, but the COVID pandemic has challenged the SDGs across all fronts. Beginning with health and directly affecting education, women’s roles, and growing inequality, progress on the goals has been set back decades.
