Guest Speaker
Peter Saeta, PhD
Professor of Physics
Peter Saeta, PhD, researches the limits to absorption enhancement in thin-film solar cells from plasmonics.
He has investigated the disordering of semiconductors excited by intense femtosecond laser pulses; the generation and applications of sub-picosecond pulses of far-infrared light, including studies of carrier dynamics in semiconductors and superconductors; profiling optical fiber cores using optical scattering techniques; the luminescence properties of silicon nanostructures; and harmonic generation at interfaces.
Before Saeta came to Harvey Mudd College, he was awarded research fellowships by the AT&T Bell labs and the National Research Council. He is a member of the American Physical Society, the American Association of Physics Teachers, the Materials Research Society and the Optical Society of America. From 1982 to 1984, he taught physics and chemistry as a U.S. Peace Corps volunteer in Aklakou, Togo, West Africa.
